Japan R-SUD Association Secretariat
With the implementation of the system for remanufacturing single-use medical devices (hereinafter referred to as R-SUD), the Japan R-SUD Association (JRSA) was established with the aim of actively spreading the system and translating it into concrete actions. As Representative Director Matsumoto serves as the chairman of the association, the Matsumoto Global Foundation (a non-profit organization) serves as the secretariat.
Background to the Institutionalization of Reuse of Used Single-Use Medical Devices
The background to the institutionalization of R-SUD is that some medical institutions reuse used single-use medical devices (medical devices that are meant to be used only once, hereafter referred to as SUDs) for reasons such as cost reduction, which has been viewed as a problem from the perspective of medical safety. The United States and Germany have already led the way in institutionalizing remanufacturing, and Japan also implemented the system in July 2017, as a response to 1) reconsiderations regarding the careless disposal of expensive medical devices (what a waste!) and 2) reconsideration of inappropriate in-hospital processing for the purpose of reuse (especially low-cost items).
The significance of institutionalizing the reuse of used single-use medical devices
1. Utilization of precious medical resources
②Safety management
3) Environmental conservation
④Improved economic efficiency
There is also the added benefit of creating new industries.
"JRSA" also aims to create new industries
This council was launched in January 2018. The founding member companies at the time of its establishment were the following companies:
While striving for international consistency, we also aim to develop new industries and reduce medical costs through reuse.
We are also looking for corporate members who support the council's aims.
